Steve Bond is the founder and a Lead Pastor at Summit Christian Church. Steve, and his wife Pam, planted Summit in 1999. Their vision is to grow a church that would transform the spiritual landscape of the Truckee Meadows, impact the community, and reach people with the love and forgiveness of Christ. Steve’s vision, passion, and leadership have helped create a culture at Summit of love, compassion, and generosity. Whether it is making more room for others, leading a healthy staff team, or starting new global partnerships, Steve is committed to reaching others for Christ throughout the Truckee Meadows and around the world.
Steve and Pam enjoy an amazing and adventure-filled marriage. They have four adult children and nine grandchildren. Their combined passion has always been to wholeheartedly love Jesus and to follow God’s leading. Steve and his family served in the mission field in Chile for ten years, before coming back to the United States to pastor a church in Wisconsin. In 1998, God called Steve and his family to plant Summit in Sparks.
Steve earned his BA from Cal State Fullerton. He then received his Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, his Masters of Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and then a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. An avid swimmer, voracious reader, and author, Steve ’s desire is to have the entire Truckee Meadows love and follow Jesus.
Bryan Smith and his wife, Laura, entered ministry at Summit Christian Church in 2005. At that time, Bryan was Summit’s Student Pastor overseeing both middle and high school. Their vision was to create a student ministry that was growing disciples who were impacting their world with the gospel. Under their leadership students engaged in powerful weekend worship, vibrant small-group ministry, and thriving local and global outreach.
In almost a decade of ministry at Summit, Bryan oversaw Student Ministry, Outreach Ministry, and Young Adult Ministry as well as a video venue pastor for a season. In each area of ministry, relationships were a high priority. Journeying alongside others, inviting them into greater living and releasing them to enjoy all God had for them was paramount.
In 2014 Bryan headed to Virginia to serve as Lead Pastor at Real Life Christian Church, after three years of fruitful ministry in Virginia, was invited by Summit's Elder Team to serve alongside Steve Bond as Lead Pastor in a shared leadership model. 2017 marked another transition for the Smiths and Summit.
The Smiths enjoy a healthy family life with their two kids, getting out of doors camping (especially along the coast), and inviting others into their lives. Their hearts are for northern Nevada and all that God has in store for the beautiful Reno area. Whether it’s in the church building, at a local coffee shop or restaurant, they are always blessed to run into someone with whom they can engage and love with the love of Christ.
