STRESS & BURNOUT
If we try to stretch ourselves so thin to get a weeks’ worth of work done in a day, we aren’t following Jesus’ instruction. There is a reason why God created us with a need to sleep, and maybe today, what you need is rest.
Everyone faces stress, but when it becomes chronic, it can lead to burnout—that overwhelming feeling of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion. Think of stress like revving your car’s engine: short bursts are normal, but running at high speed constantly will eventually wear down even the strongest machine.
Burnout creeps up gradually, often disguised as “just a busy season,” until you find yourself feeling detached, cynical, and unable to bounce back like you used to. The signs can show up as trouble sleeping, constant fatigue, frequent headaches, loss of motivation, or feeling like you’re just going through the motions. Many people push through these warning signals, believing they should be able to handle it all, when in reality, acknowledging these feelings and seeking support is a sign of wisdom, not weakness. Recovery from burnout isn’t just about taking a vacation—it requires a deeper look at our patterns, boundaries, and the expectations we place on ourselves.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
Hebrews 12:1-2 | NLTIn him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
Ephesians 3:12-13 | NIVPeace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27 | NIVI have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 | NIVThe Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing
